Cosigüina Volcano Trails

This particular project has the objective of developing tourism infrastructure of hiking trails and viewpoints at public and/or community areas, integrating them to environmental conservation in the protected area of the Cosigüina Volcano. The main stakeholders of this project were the Committee of Collaborative Management (COMACO) and the community.

Starting from “Los Tololos”, this 1,740 meter-circuit leads you to the 3 Countries Viewpoint (Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador). The execution of the project provided greater security to national and foreign tourists thanks to the construction of handrails, rest areas, signposts, as well as, more influx of visitors and stimulation of the local economy. The direct beneficiaries were the local residents, tourist guides, and park rangers. This project enabled the sustainability of protected areas through a comprehensive management plan and the zoning of each zone.

Taking advantage of the local materials, expertise and leadership, 3 professional members of Taller Plural worked with 15 community volunteers and 2 local NGO Staff (RENICC) to build each design component through a self-construction process.
